Convoy turns over faster than the listings keep up with. Signs change before Google does, chains rebrand without moving, and a place can be closed for months while its hours still say open.

The Pacific Beach ramen shop, moved to Convoy in September 2026 in a shiba-themed, zen-calm room (one table has a little stream running through it). Five bowls led by a tori paitan duck ramen and a black garlic tonkotsu, plus fresh-fish inari you won't find elsewhere on the strip.

New Chinese BBQ skewer bar upstairs in the China Max building, open until 2am six nights. Cumin-spiced lamb and beef skewers, a garlic-buried eggplant and whole grilled fish to share, with a free snack bar, free ice cream and a karaoke stage.

A small, family-run Korean bakery that opened in August 2026 in Sunrise Towne Centre, in the old Sage Bakery space next to Nijiya. Shelves of individually wrapped Korean breads — red bean, soboro, mammoth bread, mugwort cream bread, curry croquettes — plus whole cakes and slices in the case, priced under the big chain bakeries.

Cocobomb brings Thai coconut desserts to Convoy Pointe, next to Bonchon: house-made coconut-milk ice cream (vegan and dairy-free) in coconut, pandan, mango, taro and Thai tea, served three scoops deep in a young coconut with fresh mango and coconut meat for $11. Mango sticky rice, coconut cake and Thai sweets like lot chong round it out, until 10pm (11pm on weekends).

A big, all-halal Middle Eastern coffeehouse on Balboa just west of Convoy, from the Muslims of the World brand (its first California shop). Yemeni chai brewed for 90 minutes, pistachio and date-cardamom lattes, kunafa made in-house with a real cheese pull, and Argentine-style empanadas — with a patio, board games, outlets at every table, and hours until 10pm (midnight Friday and Saturday).

The premium end of Convoy hot pot, from the Chubby Cattle group — all-you-can-eat wagyu shabu with sashimi, seafood platters and wagyu nigiri, plus free drinks, milk tea, soft serve and a big sauce bar. Dinner tiers run $55 to $98; the $34.98 weekday lunch is the deal. Opened in early 2026.

San Diego's only restaurant that specializes in dakgalbi — Chuncheon-style spicy chicken stir-fried with cabbage, rice cakes and sweet potato in a big pan at your table, cooked for you by the staff and finished with torched mozzarella and fried rice made in the leftover sauce. Opened in 2026 in Hive Plaza, with gopchang, pork belly platters, cold buckwheat noodles and stews alongside.

The former Fish With You, renamed in 2026: the same big bowls of Sichuan suancai fish soup — tender boneless fish, tangy pickled mustard greens and chewy sweet-potato noodles — plus a new build-your-own malatang bar. Everyone gets their own bowl, from numbing mala to no-spice tomato and lemon.

A roomy new kakigori and craft-drink cafe (opened spring 2026) in the 3904 Convoy plaza: huge bowls of fluffy Japanese shaved ice with ice from Japan, organic milk and surprise fillings, plus seven-times-scented jasmine milk teas, real-fruit smoothies and creamochi, a drinkable mochi. Plenty of seats; kiosk ordering.

New, stylish pho house on Convoy where the broth is poured at your table over giant bowls, with the $28.50 Pho Nom (bone-in rib, short rib and brisket) built to share. Red booths, lanterns and flowers overhead, and a short menu built around big bowls.

Announced but not yet open. These are tracked from permits, press and signage, and the status line tells you how solid each one is.
A Sichuan malatang chain with locations in Los Angeles' Koreatown and Carrollton, Texas, taking Suite N in Convoy Village — the plaza that also holds Yun Tea House and Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. The format is fast-casual build-your-own: a self-serve bar of more than 90 ingredients, from greens and mushrooms to fish tofu and quail eggs, weighed and cooked to order.
Status as of August 2026: announced in March 2026, no Google listing, no confirmed opening date. We have not seen signage. Treat this as announced rather than imminent.

Closures are the quietest thing that happens here, and the slowest to reach the big listing sites. These are ones we've confirmed.
The Beijing-headquartered Chongqing-style hot pot spot has permanently closed. It surfaced first in a passing remark inside a review of a different restaurant, then was confirmed on Google. Go instead: YinTang or Yonny Mini for Sichuan heat.

Chewy mochi donuts in rotating flavors — the texture is the whole point, and they tear into shareable pieces. Only about five flavors run at a time and the lineup changes every few days, so check their Instagram before you go.

Closed and replaced in the same unit by Kanpai BBQ & Shabu, which now runs all-you-can-eat hot pot and Korean barbecue from the address.
That's three hot pot closures in one district. It's the clearest argument we know of for checking before you drive — and the reason every listing here carries a verification date.
Not every sign change is a new business. Two worth knowing:
Fish With You → Yonny Mini Hot Pot, 3904 Convoy. The sign changed in 2026 when they added a malatang bar, but it's the same restaurant, open since 2025, and the original suancai fish menu is intact. If you're searching for Fish With You, it hasn't gone anywhere.
Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House, 4225 Convoy, took over a previous hot pot restaurant's space and renovated it in January 2026. Same room, different everything else.
The newest openings in the Convoy District are Oi Shiba (ramen, opened September 2026), Midnight Skewer (Chinese, opened August 2026), K Bakery (bakery, opened August 2026) and Coco Bomb (ice cream, opened June 2026). YGF Malatang also opened on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard in mid-2026. Openings here run at several a year, mostly in the plazas along Convoy Street and Clairemont Mesa Boulevard.
Shancheng Lameizi Hot Pot and Mochinut have permanently closed, and so have Nice 2 Meet U Chuan Chuan Hot Pot at 4428 Convoy Street and Boiling Passion at 3904 Convoy Street, which was replaced by Kanpai BBQ & Shabu. Closures are often quiet here — the sign changes before the listings do, which is why this page exists.
Tanghuo Kungfu Hot Pot, a Sichuan malatang chain with locations in Los Angeles and Texas, was announced for 4344 Convoy Street Suite N in the Convoy Village Shopping Center. As of August 2026 it has no Google listing and no confirmed opening date, so treat it as announced rather than imminent.
Faster than most listings keep up with. In the hot pot category alone, three Convoy restaurants have closed in recent memory while at least four have opened since 2025. Chain locations also rebrand without moving — Fish With You became Yonny Mini Hot Pot in 2026 while keeping its original menu.
